[ You know one of the worst parts about going to magical school for witches and wizards? The fact that for some reason they hadn't figured out that pencils were a hell of a lot more convenient than quills and ink. Hell, a regular pen would do just fine and be less of a hassle to work with.
In fact, Aoba's making that mental note to himself to write home to his Granny as soon as possible (with one of these stupid quills) to send him some pens with her next care package. ... maybe. He'd made that mental note to himself dozens of times before and always seemed to forget to get that message written by the time the next day rolled around.
Still he was sitting in the middle of the common room staring down at his parchment with a look of distaste as a blob of ink was slowly spreading itself across his half written homework. You could only use a spell to undo something like this so many times before it started to get on your nerves. ]
[ Quidditch season is starting up again soon, so Koujaku just got back from practice. It's easy to tell he's back as his usual fans -- mostly girls -- welcome him back to the common room. He's used to this sort of scenario happening, so he knows just what to say to calm the girls down and get some alone time. He may be past his womanizing days, but he still has fangirls. With a few smooth talking words and an excuse, the girls head to their rooms or off to other places.
He walks over to Aoba, knowing the the other has been here since he entered. He takes out his wand, muttering a few words, fixing the spilled ink on the paper.]
Need a new quill? Or did you use it in one your classes and place a curse on it?
[ Has Aoba ever mentioned before how much he hates Koujaku's fans? Because he kind of hates Koujaku's fans. He doesn't even bother trying to clean up the mess as he turns to stare that the front of the common room, managing to look even grumpier than he was a minute ago thanks to the screaming mass of girls, and sits back with a sigh of relief when Koujaku actually sends them off.
Another sigh when Koujaku cleans up his homework for him, but that one is more out of irritation. Not at Koujaku fixing the mess for him, but the fact that the stupid ink spilled in the first place. ]
It's new, and I'm already regretting the fact I spent money on it.
[ He can tell it's more than just the quill bothering him, but he doesn't say anything. He's in a rather good mood, acting friendly and upbeat even though he's actually tired from practice.]
How much did it set you back? Maybe next time we go to Hogsmeade together you can pick another one out. [He goes to sit next to Aoba, putting his own wand away.] Unless it's a user error. Taking your frustration out on it?
[ Aoba's not about to bring up the fact that Koujaku's fans annoy him either. Well... not right here in the common room where everyone could hear them. He might someplace else because he has no issues with bitching about them when it's just him and Koujaku.
He snorts with irritation at the second question Koujaku asks him. ]
I'm not doing anything wrong.
[ He's probably using it wrong. ]
It didn't cost that much though. I'll just go back to using one of my old ones. It's fine.
That confident, huh? [ He laughs a little, teasing him. ] For all the stuff muggles use for writing, we're still using quills... it's sort of funny, don't you think?
You can use one of mine for now if you want. [ If you want means "here you go!" as Koujaku takes a rather fancy red looking quill. ] Go on -- there isn't a curse placed on it.
Maybe, but those who aren't used to muggle ways think they're complicated. [ He clears his voice, soon sounding different. ] "You mean you have to sharpen a pencil?", "What do you mean it doesn't last forever?" [ he returns to his normal tone. ] Stuff like that. It's all about perspective, Aoba. We've seen both sides -- not everyone has.
It's a priceless family heirloom that was rumored to be owned by a great Japanese wizard. [ It's hard to tell if he's joking or not. HE MIGHT BE SERIOUS... he might be teasing Aoba. ]
[ He stops right before dipping the quill into the ink. Suddenly not so sure this is a good idea after all. Is Koujaku just messing with him...? Because if he's not and he ruins this thing... ]
Are you serious?
[ He looks about ready to shove this thing back into Koujaku's hands as fast as possible. ]

[ Gripe gripe gripe. I came from a muggle home and still can't adjust to small things sometimes. Gripe.
He does take the red quill when it's offered to him though. ]
This looks expensive.
[ You sure you wanna lend that to him? He's not actually careful with these things. ]
